Mail thief who stole from several homes arrested, New Westminster police say

New Westminster police have arrested a mail thief who targeted multiple homes in the area, according to authorities.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody on Wednesday after a thorough investigation by the New Westminster Police Department.

According to police, the thief had been stealing mail from various homes in the community, causing concern and frustration among residents.

“We take these types of crimes very seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community,” said Sergeant Jeff Scott of the New Westminster Police Department.

The suspect was caught after a resident reported seeing a suspicious individual going through their mailbox. The resident was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect, which helped police in their investigation.

After identifying the suspect, police obtained a search warrant for their residence. During the search, officers found a large amount of stolen mail, as well as tools used to break into mailboxes.

The suspect has been charged with multiple counts of theft and possession of stolen property. They are currently in custody and will appear in court at a later date.

Police are reminding residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. They also advise homeowners to collect their mail regularly and to consider installing security cameras or locking mailboxes to prevent theft.
