No Frills workers at 17 Ontario stores ratify new contract

After weeks of negotiations, No Frills has officially ratified a new deal with its employees.

The agreement, which was reached between the grocery chain and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union, was announced on Monday.

The new deal includes a wage increase for employees, as well as improvements to benefits and working conditions.

According to UFCW Local 1000A, which represents No Frills workers in Ontario, the deal was approved by a majority vote of 85 per cent.

The union had been in talks with No Frills since the previous contract expired on December 31, 2020.

During the negotiations, the union had raised concerns about the company’s use of temporary workers and the lack of full-time positions.

However, with the new deal, No Frills has agreed to increase the number of full-time positions and limit the use of temporary workers.

In a statement, UFCW Local 1000A president Wayne Hanley said, “We are pleased to have reached a fair agreement that recognizes the hard work and dedication of No Frills employees.”

He also added that the new deal will provide job security and stability for workers, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

No Frills, which is owned by Loblaw Companies Limited, has over 250 stores across Canada and employs thousands of workers.

The company is known for its low prices and has become a popular choice for budget-conscious shoppers.

With the new deal in place, No Frills employees can now look forward to better wages and working conditions, as well as more opportunities for full-time employment.

The ratification of this deal is a positive step towards ensuring fair treatment and job security for workers in the grocery industry.
