Officer assaulted while walking to downtown police station: TPS

A Toronto police officer was assaulted while walking to the downtown police station on Monday evening, according to the Toronto Police Service (TPS).

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue. The officer, who was in full uniform, was approached by a man who began to punch and kick him.

The officer was able to defend himself and call for backup. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.

The TPS is currently investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information to come forward. They have also released a description of the suspect, who is believed to be in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, with a medium build and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark pants.
