A new video has surfaced, showcasing the successful use of Project Lifesaver wristbands by police in locating a missing person.
The heartwarming footage, captured by CP24, shows the moment when a 72-year-old man with dementia was found safe and sound thanks to the innovative technology.
According to police, the man had gone missing from his home in the early hours of the morning. His family immediately contacted authorities and informed them that he was wearing a Project Lifesaver wristband.
Project Lifesaver is a program that provides individuals with cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s or autism, with a wristband that emits a tracking signal. This allows police to quickly locate the person in case they go missing.
In the video, we see officers using a handheld receiver to track the signal from the missing man’s wristband. After a few minutes of searching, they were able to locate him in a nearby park, safe and unharmed.
The man’s family expressed their gratitude to the police and the Project Lifesaver program, stating that they were relieved and grateful for the quick and successful rescue.
This is not the first time that Project Lifesaver has proven to be a valuable tool in locating missing persons. In fact, since its launch in 1999, the program has helped save over 3,500 lives in Canada and the United States.
The success of this program highlights the importance of investing in innovative technologies and programs that can assist in keeping our communities safe. It also serves as a reminder to families of individuals with cognitive disorders to consider enrolling in the Project Lifesaver program.
We commend the police for their swift and effective response in this situation and we are grateful for the positive outcome. Let this be a reminder to all of us to stay vigilant and to support programs that can make a difference in the lives of those who are most vulnerable in our society.
