City recognizes Transpo staff for acts of valour, exceptional service

The City of Ottawa has recently recognized the exceptional service and acts of valour displayed by staff members of the city’s public transportation system, Transpo.

During a ceremony held at City Hall, Mayor Jim Watson and Transit Commission Chair Allan Hubley presented awards to 12 Transpo employees for their outstanding contributions to the community.

Among the recipients was bus operator, John Smith, who was commended for his quick thinking and bravery during a medical emergency on his bus. Smith’s calm and efficient response helped save the life of a passenger who had suffered a heart attack.

Another Transpo employee, Sarah Jones, was recognized for her exceptional customer service skills. Jones went above and beyond her duties as a customer service representative, providing assistance to a visually impaired passenger who had lost their wallet on the bus.

In addition to individual awards, the entire Transpo team was recognized for their dedication and hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges and risks, Transpo staff continued to provide essential transportation services to the community, ensuring that essential workers could get to their jobs and residents could access necessary services.

Mayor Watson expressed his gratitude to the Transpo staff, stating, “Your commitment to serving our community is truly commendable. Your acts of valour and exceptional service do not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated by the City of Ottawa.”

Transit Commission Chair Hubley also praised the staff, saying, “The dedication and professionalism of Transpo employees is a testament to the high standards of service that our city strives for. We are proud to have such outstanding individuals as part of our team.”

The awards ceremony serves as a reminder of the important role that Transpo plays in the daily lives of Ottawa residents. The City of Ottawa is grateful for the hard work and dedication of Transpo staff and their commitment to providing safe and reliable transportation services to the community.
