Some disabled Sask. residents did not receive their income assistance cheques

Several disabled residents in Saskatchewan have been left without their much-needed income assistance cheques this month, causing financial strain and uncertainty for those affected.

According to reports, the issue stems from a technical error within the provincial government’s system, resulting in the delay or non-delivery of cheques to some recipients. This has left many individuals and families struggling to make ends meet, as they rely on these cheques for their basic needs.

One resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared their frustration with CTV News, stating that they have not received their cheque for the month of June and have been unable to reach anyone for assistance. They expressed concern over how they will be able to pay for rent and groceries without their income assistance.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services has acknowledged the issue and is working to resolve it as quickly as possible. In a statement, they assured that those affected will receive their cheques as soon as the problem is resolved.

In the meantime, the ministry has advised those who have not received their cheques to contact their local social services office for assistance. They have also assured that no one will be penalized for late payments due to this error.

This is not the first time that the province has faced issues with income assistance payments. In 2019, a similar technical error resulted in delayed payments for over 2,000 recipients.

The Saskatchewan NDP has criticized the government for their handling of the situation, stating that this is a recurring issue that needs to be addressed and resolved permanently.

As the government works to fix the issue, it is important for those affected to know that they are not alone and that help is available. We urge the government to prioritize resolving this issue and ensuring that all disabled residents receive their income assistance in a timely manner.
