The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in connection with an incident on Lake Nipissing.
According to a press release from the OPP, on July 15th, 2021, officers responded to a call about a disturbance on the lake. Upon arrival, they discovered that a boat had collided with a dock, causing significant damage.
After further investigation, it was determined that the operator of the boat was impaired by alcohol. As a result, 33-year-old John Smith of North Bay has been charged with impaired operation of a vessel and operating a vessel with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.
Smith is scheduled to appear in court on August 25th, 2021, to answer to the charges.
The OPP would like to remind the public that operating a vessel while impaired by alcohol or drugs is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. They urge all boaters to make responsible decisions and to never operate a vessel while under the influence.
