Toronto police release photos of suspect, motorcycle after officer struck while directing traffic

Toronto Police have released photos of a suspect motorcycle after an officer was struck while directing traffic on Monday evening.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue around 6:30 p.m. The officer, who has not been identified, was directing traffic when a motorcycle struck them and fled the scene.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Toronto Police said they are searching for a black and red motorcycle with a distinctive red seat and a missing left mirror. They have also released photos of the motorcycle in question.

Police are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also urging the suspect to turn themselves in.

The incident has sparked concern among the community and has raised questions about the safety of police officers while on duty. This is not the first time an officer has been struck while directing traffic in Toronto.

In 2018, Constable Ken Lam was hailed as a hero after he arrested the suspect in the Yonge Street van attack. Lam was directing traffic at the time and was able to apprehend the suspect without any further harm.

The Toronto Police Association has also expressed their concern for the safety of officers while on duty, calling for stricter penalties for those who harm or endanger police officers.

As the investigation continues, Toronto Police are reminding the public to always be aware of their surroundings and to obey traffic laws, especially when approaching an officer directing traffic.

Anyone with information about the suspect motorcycle or the incident is asked to contact Toronto Police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
