Unmarked police cruiser involved in crash near downtown Edmonton

A collision involving an unmarked police cruiser occurred near downtown Edmonton on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, the crash happened at the intersection of 97 Street and 105 Avenue around 6:30 p.m. The unmarked police vehicle was traveling southbound on 97 Street when it collided with a pickup truck heading east on 105 Avenue.

The impact of the crash caused significant damage to both vehicles, with the pickup truck ending up on its side. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene, while the two police officers in the cruiser were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated the cause of the crash. It was determined that the unmarked police cruiser had the right of way at the time of the collision.

The Edmonton Police Service has confirmed that the officers involved were responding to a call at the time of the crash. They were not pursuing a suspect and did not have their lights and sirens activated.
