Passengers on a VIA Rail train traveling from Quebec to Rodriguez experienced a significant delay on Tuesday evening.
According to VIA Rail spokesperson, Marie-Anna Murat, the train was delayed for over two hours due to a mechanical issue. The train, which was scheduled to depart from Quebec at 5:30 pm, did not leave the station until 7:45 pm.
Murat stated that the mechanical issue was discovered during a routine inspection and the train had to be taken out of service for repairs. She also mentioned that the safety of passengers is the top priority for VIA Rail and they apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
Passengers on board the train expressed their frustration and disappointment with the delay. Many had to rearrange their travel plans and some even missed important appointments or events.
One passenger, Sarah Johnson, shared her experience on social media, stating that she was on her way to a job interview in Rodriguez and had to reschedule due to the delay. She also mentioned that the lack of communication from VIA Rail staff added to the frustration of passengers.
VIA Rail has assured that they will be providing compensation to affected passengers, including a full refund for their ticket and a travel credit for future trips.
This is not the first time VIA Rail has faced delays and mechanical issues. In October, a train traveling from Toronto to Montreal was delayed for over four hours due to a mechanical problem.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their train before departure and to contact VIA Rail for any updates or concerns.
Despite the inconvenience caused, it is important to prioritize safety and proper maintenance of trains to ensure the well-being of passengers. VIA Rail has stated that they are continuously working to improve their services and minimize delays in the future.
