A woman has been charged for allegedly making a threatening post on Snapchat directed towards an Oshawa school.
According to Durham Regional Police, the post was made on January 6 and was reported to them by concerned citizens. The post contained a photo of a firearm and a message that threatened violence towards an Oshawa school.
The police immediately launched an investigation and were able to identify the suspect as 20-year-old Emily Vanden Elzen. She was arrested on January 7 and charged with uttering threats to cause bodily harm.
The police have also confirmed that the firearm in the photo was a replica and not a real weapon.
The Durham District School Board has released a statement regarding the incident, stating that they take all threats seriously and are working closely with the police to ensure the safety of their students and staff.
Vanden Elzen has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on February 25.
