Pro-Palestinian protesters rally at Manitoba Legislative Building nearly one year after Oct. 7 attacks

Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered at the Manitoba Legislative Building on Wednesday, nearly one year after the October 7 attacks that sparked global outrage.

The rally, organized by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing violence and oppression faced by Palestinians in the occupied territories.

According to PYM, the October 7 attacks were a turning point in the Palestinian struggle for justice and freedom. On that day, Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza, killing 10 Palestinians, including eight children.

Since then, the violence has only escalated, with Israel continuing its illegal occupation of Palestinian land and carrying out brutal attacks on civilians.

Protesters at the rally held signs and chanted slogans, calling for an end to the occupation and for justice for the Palestinian people. They also demanded that the Canadian government take a stronger stance against Israel’s actions and hold them accountable for their human rights violations.

The rally also highlighted the ongoing hunger strike of Palestinian political prisoner Maher al-Akhras, who has been detained by Israel without charge or trial for over 90 days. Al-Akhras’ health has deteriorated significantly, and he is at risk of permanent organ damage or death.

The PYM called on the Canadian government to pressure Israel to release al-Akhras and all other political prisoners, as well as to end the illegal occupation and blockade of Gaza.

The rally was attended by a diverse group of individuals, including members of the Palestinian community, Indigenous activists, and supporters of the Palestinian cause.

In a statement, the PYM emphasized the importance of solidarity and unity in the fight for justice and liberation for all oppressed peoples.

The rally at the Manitoba Legislative Building was just one of many events held around the world to mark the one-year anniversary of the October 7 attacks and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

As the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, it is crucial for the international community to take action and support the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and self-determination.
