The Calgary Hitmen faced a tough loss against the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night, falling 4-1. Despite their best efforts, the Hitmen were unable to overcome the impressive performance of Broncos’ goaltender Reid Dyck.
The game started off with a strong showing from both teams, with the Hitmen and Broncos trading chances in the first period. However, it was the Broncos who struck first, with forward Aiden Bulych scoring the opening goal just over five minutes into the game.
The Hitmen continued to push back, but were met with a solid defense from the Broncos and some impressive saves from Dyck. The Broncos’ goaltender was on fire, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced throughout the game.
The second period saw the Hitmen ramp up their offensive efforts, but they were once again shut down by Dyck. Despite outshooting the Broncos 16-6 in the period, the Hitmen were unable to find the back of the net.
In the third period, the Broncos extended their lead with goals from Mathew Ward and Michael Farren. The Hitmen managed to get one past Dyck with a goal from Riley Stotts, but it was too little too late. The Broncos sealed the deal with an empty-net goal from Bulych, securing their 4-1 victory.
Despite the loss, Hitmen head coach Steve Hamilton praised his team’s effort, stating, “I thought we played a pretty good game. We had a lot of chances, but their goalie was just outstanding tonight.”
The Hitmen will look to bounce back from this defeat as they continue their road trip against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Tuesday.
