A vibrant new addition to Winnipeg’s West End has been unveiled, as a stunning mural was revealed to the public on Tuesday.
The mural, titled “Unity in Diversity,” was created by local artist Sarah Collard and is located on the side of a building at the corner of Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street.
Collard, who has been a resident of the West End for over 20 years, was inspired by the diverse community and wanted to showcase the beauty and strength of its people through her art.
The mural features a colorful array of faces, representing the different cultures and backgrounds that make up the West End. Collard also incorporated symbols of unity, such as a handshake and a heart, to emphasize the message of coming together despite our differences.
The project was made possible through a partnership between the West End BIZ, the City of Winnipeg, and local businesses. The West End BIZ provided funding for the mural, while the City of Winnipeg provided the wall for Collard to work on.
Mayor Brian Bowman was in attendance at the unveiling and praised the mural as a symbol of the West End’s resilience and diversity.
“The West End is a vibrant and diverse community, and this mural is a beautiful representation of that,” said Mayor Bowman. “It’s a reminder that we are stronger when we come together and celebrate our differences.”
The mural has already received positive feedback from the community, with many residents expressing their appreciation for the artwork and its message.
Collard hopes that the mural will not only beautify the neighborhood, but also serve as a source of inspiration and pride for the residents of the West End.
“I wanted to create something that the community could look at and feel a sense of belonging and unity,” said Collard. “I hope this mural will bring people together and spark conversations about diversity and inclusivity.”
The “Unity in Diversity” mural is a testament to the power of art to bring people together and celebrate diversity. It is a beautiful addition to the West End and a reflection of the strong and resilient community that calls it home.
