The annual tradition of the Legacy Lights has once again illuminated the community of Legacy in Calgary, marking the start of the holiday season. The switch was flipped on Saturday evening, December 4th, by Legacy resident and local business owner, Sarah Adams.
The Legacy Lights, which have been a beloved tradition for the past five years, feature over 100,000 LED lights that adorn the trees and streets of the community. The display is a collaborative effort between the Legacy Community Association and local businesses, with the goal of bringing joy and holiday spirit to the neighborhood.
This year’s event was especially meaningful as it marked the first time the Legacy Lights were lit since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges faced by the community, the Legacy Lights serve as a reminder of the resilience and unity of the neighborhood.
The event was attended by residents of all ages, who gathered to watch the lights come to life and enjoy hot chocolate and treats provided by local businesses. The Legacy Community Association also organized a food drive, encouraging attendees to bring non-perishable food items to support the Calgary Food Bank.
In addition to the festive lights, the event also featured a special performance by the Legacy School Choir, adding to the holiday cheer.
Sarah Adams, who had the honor of flipping the switch this year, expressed her gratitude for being a part of such a special tradition. “It’s an honor to be chosen to light up the Legacy Lights this year. It’s a beautiful display that brings our community together and spreads joy during the holiday season,” she said.
The Legacy Lights will continue to shine bright every evening until January 2nd, 2022. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take a stroll through the community and enjoy the festive display.
The Legacy Community Association and local businesses are proud to continue this tradition and bring holiday cheer to the community. As we enter the holiday season, let the Legacy Lights serve as a reminder of the strength and unity of our neighborhood.
