According to a recent poll, Quebec Premier François Legault’s popularity has taken a hit, with results showing that he is even less popular than Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The poll, conducted by Léger Marketing, surveyed 1,000 Quebecers and found that only 37% of respondents had a positive opinion of Legault, while 62% had a negative opinion. This is a significant decrease from the previous poll in October, where 47% of respondents had a positive opinion of the premier.
In comparison, Trudeau’s popularity in Quebec has remained relatively stable, with 41% of respondents having a positive opinion of him and 57% having a negative opinion.
The poll also asked respondents about their satisfaction with the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Only 35% of respondents said they were satisfied with Legault’s handling of the crisis, while 64% said they were dissatisfied. This is a decrease from October, where 44% of respondents were satisfied with the government’s response.
The results of this poll come at a crucial time for Legault, as his government faces criticism for its handling of the pandemic, including the recent decision to implement a curfew in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.
In response to the poll, Legault’s office released a statement saying that the government’s priority is to protect the health and safety of Quebecers, and that they will continue to make decisions based on the advice of public health officials.
It is worth noting that Legault’s popularity has fluctuated throughout his time in office, with a high of 65% in April 2020 and a low of 37% in December 2019.
The margin of error for this poll is +/- 3.1%, 19 times out of 20.
As the pandemic continues to impact the province, it remains to be seen how Legault’s popularity will be affected in the coming months.
