A school bus was involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Edmonton after a vehicle ran a red light, according to the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of 118 Avenue and 50 Street. EPS responded to the scene at around 3:30 p.m.
According to EPS, a vehicle traveling eastbound on 118 Avenue ran a red light and collided with a school bus that was traveling northbound on 50 Street. The impact of the collision caused the school bus to hit two other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection.
Thankfully, there were no students on the school bus at the time of the crash. The driver of the school bus and the drivers of the other vehicles involved sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene by EMS.
EPS is reminding drivers to always obey traffic signals and to be cautious when approaching intersections. They also urge drivers to be aware of school buses and to stop when the bus has its lights flashing and stop sign extended.
The intersection was closed for several hours while EPS investigated the crash and cleared the scene. It has since been reopened to traffic.
