Leafs’ Matthews still getting up to speed

Leafs’ Matthews still getting up to speed

Toronto Maple Leafs’ star player Auston Matthews is still working to get up to speed after missing the team’s first three games of the season due to a wrist injury.

The 23-year-old center returned to the ice on Monday for his first full practice with the team since his injury. While he participated in drills and scrimmages, Matthews admitted that he is still not at 100% and is taking things day by day.

“I’m just trying to get back into the swing of things,” Matthews said. “It’s been a little bit of a process, but I’m feeling better every day.”

Matthews’ absence was felt by the Leafs, who went 2-1 without him in the lineup. However, his return is a welcome sight for the team as they prepare for their upcoming games.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe praised Matthews’ work ethic and determination to get back on the ice as soon as possible.

“He’s been working extremely hard to get back,” Keefe said. “He’s a big part of our team and we’re excited to have him back.”

Matthews’ injury was initially thought to be minor, but it turned out to be more serious than expected. He underwent surgery in late October and has been rehabilitating ever since.

Despite the setback, Matthews has been able to maintain his fitness and conditioning, which has helped him in his return to the ice.

“I’ve been able to stay in shape and keep my legs under me,” Matthews said. “But there’s nothing like being out there with the guys and competing.”

While there is no set timeline for Matthews’ return to game action, he is expected to be back in the lineup soon. The Leafs have a busy schedule ahead, with 10 games in the next 18 days, and having their star player back will be a huge boost for the team.

Matthews’ return also comes at a crucial time for the Leafs, who are currently sitting at the top of the North Division with a 6-2 record. With the shortened 56-game season, every game counts and having their top scorer back in the lineup will only increase their chances of success.

As Matthews continues to work towards getting back to full strength, the Leafs and their fans eagerly await his return to the ice. His presence on the team is invaluable and his return will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the team’s performance.
