A chaotic scene unfolded on New Year’s Eve in West Edmonton as a multi-vehicle crash led to the arrest of a suspect on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm.
According to Edmonton police, the incident began when officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop and instead fled at a high speed, eventually colliding with several other vehicles at the intersection of 170 Street and 87 Avenue.
The crash caused significant damage to the involved vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries. Emergency services were quickly on the scene to provide medical assistance to those in need.
Meanwhile, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police. Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle, officers discovered a loaded firearm, leading to additional charges of possession of a weapon and ammunition.
The suspect, who has not been identified, is facing a total of six charges, including criminal flight, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a firearm. They are currently in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court on January 4.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of following traffic laws. Edmonton police are urging the public to always comply with officers’ instructions and to report any suspicious or dangerous behavior.
