A fire broke out in a home in North Edmonton on Monday evening, causing significant damage to the property.
According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, the blaze started around 6:30 p.m. in the 13000 block of 123 Street. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
Crews quickly worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. It took approximately 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, the home sustained significant damage, with the roof and upper floor being completely destroyed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials believe it may have started in the kitchen area.
Neighborhood residents reported hearing loud explosions before the fire broke out. One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said they saw flames shooting out of the windows and called 911 immediately.
The homeowners were not present at the time of the fire, and it is unclear if anyone was inside the home when it started.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services is reminding residents to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to have a fire escape plan in case of emergencies.
