A Surrey-based weapons exporter has been charged with illegally shipping restricted firearms and ammunition to Pakistan, according to the RCMP.

The investigation, which began in 2018, revealed that the exporter had been shipping weapons to Pakistan without the proper permits and authorizations. The RCMP’s National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) worked closely with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Department of Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to gather evidence and build a case against the exporter.

The accused, whose name has not been released, is facing multiple charges under the Export and Import Permits Act and the Criminal Code. They are scheduled to appear in court on October 26.

The RCMP has not disclosed the exact number or type of weapons that were exported, but they have confirmed that they were restricted firearms and ammunition. These types of weapons are heavily regulated in Canada and require specific permits and authorizations for export.

The RCMP has also stated that there is no evidence to suggest that the weapons were intended for any illegal or criminal activities in Pakistan. However, the unauthorized export of restricted firearms and ammunition is a serious offense and can have significant consequences.

The RCMP is reminding all exporters to ensure that they have the proper permits and authorizations before shipping any restricted goods, including firearms and ammunition. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in criminal charges and penalties.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, and the RCMP is urging anyone with information to come forward. They can contact the NWEST at 1-800-387-0020 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of following all regulations and laws when it comes to the export of restricted goods. The RCMP, along with its partners, will continue to work diligently to prevent the illegal export of weapons and protect the safety of Canadians and people around the world.
