A 71-year-old man has been charged after a woman was stabbed in a grocery store at College Square, according to Ottawa police.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Loblaws located at 1980 Baseline Road. Police were called to the scene at around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers found a woman with multiple stab wounds. She was immediately taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect, identified as 71-year-old John Smith, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
Police have not released any information about the relationship between the victim and the suspect, or the motive behind the attack.
The grocery store was temporarily closed for investigation, but has since reopened.
