Chatham, Ontario – The Chatham Maroons alumni were filled with joy as they made a triumphant return to their hometown with the Saginaw Spirit on Friday night.
The Maroons alumni, who played for the Chatham Maroons Junior B hockey team in the past, were invited to participate in a special pre-game ceremony at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. The ceremony was held to honor the team’s rich history and celebrate the strong bond between the Maroons and the community.
The alumni were welcomed with open arms by the Chatham fans, who were eager to see their beloved players once again. The players were greeted with cheers and applause as they took to the ice, donning their old Maroons jerseys.
“It’s always a special feeling to come back to Chatham and be a part of this amazing community,” said former Maroons player and current Saginaw Spirit head coach, Chris Lazary. “The support from the fans here is incredible and it’s an honor to be able to share this moment with my fellow alumni.”
The Maroons alumni were also joined by members of the current Chatham Maroons team, who were excited to meet and learn from the players who paved the way for them.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for us to be able to meet and learn from these amazing players who have represented our community with such pride and passion,” said current Maroons captain, Dane Johnstone. “Their legacy continues to inspire us and we are grateful for their presence here tonight.”
The pre-game ceremony was followed by an intense match between the Saginaw Spirit and the Sarnia Sting. The Spirit, who are currently ranked second in the Western Conference, put on a strong performance and ultimately defeated the Sting with a final score of 5-2.
The Maroons alumni were thrilled to see the Spirit come out on top and were proud to witness the team’s success.
“It’s amazing to see how far the Maroons organization has come and to see the Spirit continue to carry on the legacy of Chatham hockey,” said former Maroons player, Mike Verdone. “We are all proud to be a part of this community and to see the Spirit thrive.”
The night ended with a special meet and greet session, where fans had the opportunity to interact with the Maroons alumni and get autographs.
