Kelowna, BC – The city of Kelowna has taken a significant step towards enhancing its protective services with the groundbreaking of a new $49 million campus.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday, marked the beginning of construction for the new facility, which will house the Kelowna Fire Department, RCMP, and the City’s Corporate Security and Emergency Management departments.

The campus, located on the corner of Clement Avenue and Richter Street, will span over 10 acres and feature state-of-the-art facilities for training, administration, and emergency response.

Mayor Colin Basran expressed his excitement for the project, stating that it will not only improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the city’s protective services but also provide a centralized location for collaboration and coordination.

The new campus will also include a public safety building, which will serve as a hub for community outreach and education programs.

The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2022 and will be funded through a combination of city reserves and borrowing.

Kelowna Fire Chief Travis Whiting highlighted the importance of the new campus in ensuring the safety of the community, stating that it will allow for better response times and improved training for emergency personnel.

The RCMP also expressed their enthusiasm for the project, with Superintendent Kara Triance stating that the new campus will provide a modern and efficient workspace for officers to serve the community.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by city officials, representatives from the RCMP and fire department, as well as members of the public.
