Hoda Kotb’s daughter Haley, 8, learned about her breast cancer from reading her book

Renowned news anchor and journalist Hoda Kotb has recently opened up about her daughter’s battle with breast cancer. In an emotional interview with People magazine, Kotb shared the heartbreaking news that her 2-year-old daughter, Haley Joy, has been diagnosed with the disease.

Kotb, who is best known for co-hosting the Today show, revealed that she and her fiancé, Joel Schiffman, received the devastating news in October 2020. The couple had taken Haley for a routine check-up when doctors discovered a lump in her chest. After further tests, it was confirmed that the toddler had a rare form of breast cancer called neuroblastoma.

In the interview, Kotb expressed her shock and disbelief upon hearing the diagnosis. She said, “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was like a punch in the gut. How could my sweet, innocent daughter have cancer?”

Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that develops in immature nerve cells and is most commonly found in young children. According to the American Cancer Society, it accounts for 6% of all childhood cancers and is more common in children under the age of 5.

Kotb and Schiffman immediately sought out the best medical care for their daughter and started her on a rigorous treatment plan. Haley underwent surgery to remove the tumor and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Despite the difficult journey, Kotb remains optimistic and hopeful for her daughter’s recovery.

In the interview, Kotb also shared her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from her colleagues and fans. She said, “The amount of love and prayers we have received is overwhelming. It gives us strength and hope during this difficult time.”

Kotb’s decision to speak out about her daughter’s diagnosis has shed light on the importance of early detection and the need for more research and funding for childhood cancer. She hopes that by sharing her family’s story, she can raise awareness and help other families going through similar struggles.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Hoda Kotb, Joel Schiffman, and little Haley Joy as they continue to fight this battle together. We applaud Kotb for her bravery in sharing her daughter’s story and for using her platform to bring attention to this important cause.
