Rutland Senior Secondary was placed on a brief 'hold and secure' Friday afternoon

Kelowna, BC – Rutland Senior Secondary School was briefly placed on a hold and secure on Friday afternoon, causing concern among students, parents, and staff.

According to the Kelowna RCMP, the hold and secure was initiated as a precautionary measure after a report of a suspicious person in the area. The school was placed on hold and secure at approximately 1:30 pm and was lifted at 2:15 pm.

During the hold and secure, students and staff were instructed to remain inside the school building and all exterior doors were locked. The RCMP conducted a thorough search of the school and the surrounding area, but no suspicious person was found.

The hold and secure was lifted after the RCMP determined that there was no longer a threat to the school. Students were able to resume their regular activities and were dismissed at the usual time.

The safety and security of students and staff is of utmost importance to the school and the RCMP. The hold and secure was a precautionary measure taken to ensure the safety of everyone on the school grounds.
