Kelowna Yacht Club Celebrates 80th Birthday with Public Exhibit
The Kelowna Yacht Club, a staple in the Okanagan community, is celebrating its 80th birthday this year. To commemorate this milestone, the club is sharing its history and accomplishments with the public through a special exhibit.
Located on the shores of Okanagan Lake, the Kelowna Yacht Club has been a hub for boating enthusiasts since its establishment in 1941. Over the years, the club has grown to become one of the largest and most active yacht clubs in Canada, with over 1,000 members and a wide range of activities and events.
The public exhibit, titled “80 Years of Sailing Through the Okanagan,” showcases the club’s rich history and contributions to the community. It features photographs, artifacts, and stories from past and present members, highlighting the club’s growth and evolution over the years.
According to Kelowna Yacht Club Commodore, Peter Schulz, the exhibit is a way to not only celebrate the club’s 80th birthday, but also to educate the public about the club’s role in the community. “We are proud to share our history and accomplishments with the public and showcase the important role the Kelowna Yacht Club has played in promoting boating and water safety in the Okanagan,” he stated.
The exhibit also includes a special section dedicated to the club’s community outreach and philanthropic efforts. Over the years, the Kelowna Yacht Club has been actively involved in various charitable initiatives, including hosting sailing events for children with disabilities and supporting local environmental conservation efforts.
The public exhibit is open to all and will run until the end of the year. Visitors can learn about the club’s history, view vintage boats, and even take a virtual tour of the club’s facilities. The Kelowna Yacht Club is also offering guided tours for those interested in learning more about the club and its activities.
As the Kelowna Yacht Club celebrates its 80th birthday, it continues to be a vital part of the Okanagan community, promoting boating, water safety, and giving back to the community. The public exhibit is a testament to the club’s enduring legacy and its commitment to serving the community for many more years to come.
