Ballet Kelowna, a renowned dance company in the Okanagan region, has officially opened its new season with a captivating performance titled “Countermove”. The highly anticipated show, which took place at the Kelowna Community Theatre, was met with great enthusiasm and praise from the audience.
The performance featured two contrasting pieces, “Petite Cérémonie” and “16+ a room”. “Petite Cérémonie” was choreographed by renowned French choreographer Medhi Walerski, while “16+ a room” was created by Ballet Kelowna’s own Artistic Director and CEO, Simone Orlando.
“Petite Cérémonie” was a playful and whimsical piece, showcasing the dancers’ technical skills and their ability to seamlessly blend classical ballet with contemporary movements. The audience was captivated by the dancers’ fluidity and grace, as they effortlessly moved across the stage.
On the other hand, “16+ a room” was a more introspective and emotional piece, exploring the complexities of human relationships. The dancers’ powerful and emotive performances left the audience in awe and moved many to tears.
The opening night of “Countermove” also marked the debut of six new dancers, who have joined Ballet Kelowna for the 2021/2022 season. These talented dancers, hailing from Canada, the United States, and Europe, have already made a strong impression with their exceptional skills and stage presence.
In addition to the stunning performances, the audience was also treated to live music by the renowned Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, adding an extra layer of depth and richness to the show.
