Man dies in hospital following industrial accident in southeast Calgary

A tragic industrial accident in Calgary has resulted in the death of a man.

According to authorities, emergency services were called to a construction site in the city’s southeast on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at a warehouse near 52 Street and 90 Avenue SE.

Upon arrival, paramedics found a man in his 40s who had sustained critical injuries. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Calgary Police Service and Occupational Health and Safety are currently investigating the incident. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.

This is not the first time a workplace accident has occurred in Calgary. In 2019, there were 17 workplace fatalities in the city, according to the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta.

The construction industry has been identified as one of the most dangerous industries in terms of workplace fatalities. In 2019, it accounted for 30% of all workplace deaths in Alberta.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, but authorities are reminding employers and workers to prioritize safety in the workplace. This includes following proper safety protocols, providing adequate training, and conducting regular safety inspections.
