An investigation has been launched after a dog was found tied to a tree and left for dead in the Okanagan region.
According to the BC SPCA, the dog, a female German Shepherd, was discovered by a passerby on a logging road near Peachland on July 17. The dog was severely emaciated and had a chain tightly wrapped around her neck, causing significant injuries.
The SPCA immediately rushed the dog to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment. Despite their best efforts, the dog was unable to recover and had to be euthanized due to the severity of her condition.
The SPCA is now appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the identification of the person responsible for this cruel act. They are also urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to come forward.
Marcie Moriarty, chief prevention and enforcement officer for the BC SPCA, called the incident “heartbreaking” and emphasized the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
Animal cruelty is a serious offense and can result in a fine of up to $75,000, a prison term of up to two years, and a lifetime ban on owning animals.
The SPCA is also reminding pet owners to be responsible and to never abandon their animals. If for any reason they are unable to care for their pets, they should reach out to their local SPCA or animal shelter for assistance.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of treating animals with kindness and respect. The SPCA is committed to seeking justice for this innocent dog and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
