Sudbury, ON – The Sudbury Five basketball team is gearing up for a new era under the leadership of their newly appointed head coach and general manager, Joey Puddister. The team announced the exciting news on Monday, marking a significant change for the franchise.
Puddister, a native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Sudbury Five. He has an impressive coaching resume, having spent the last five years as an assistant coach for the Halifax Hurricanes of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). During his time with the Hurricanes, Puddister helped lead the team to three consecutive NBLC Finals appearances and one championship title.
In addition to his coaching experience, Puddister also has a strong background in player development and scouting. He has worked with various professional and collegiate teams, including the NBA’s Toronto Raptors and the University of New Brunswick.
Puddister’s appointment as head coach and general manager comes after the Sudbury Five parted ways with their previous head coach, Logan Stutz, in May. Stutz had been with the team since its inception in 2018 and led them to their first playoff appearance in the 2019-2020 season.
The Sudbury Five organization is confident that Puddister’s leadership and expertise will take the team to new heights. In a statement, team owner and president, Dario Zulich, expressed his excitement for the future, saying, “We are thrilled to have Joey Puddister join our organization as head coach and general manager. His track record speaks for itself, and we believe he is the perfect fit to lead our team to success.”
Puddister is equally excited about the opportunity to lead the Sudbury Five. In a press conference, he stated, “I am honored and humbled to be named the head coach and general manager of the Sudbury Five. I am looking forward to working with the players, staff, and ownership to build a winning culture and bring a championship to Sudbury.”
The Sudbury Five’s upcoming season is highly anticipated, with fans eager to see the team’s new direction under Puddister’s leadership. The team will begin their training camp in October, with the regular season set to start in November.
As the Sudbury Five embark on this new chapter, all eyes will be on Joey Puddister as he leads the team towards success. With his experience, passion, and determination, there is no doubt that he will make a significant impact on the team and the community.
