Tragedy struck in Edmonton early this morning as a house fire claimed the life of one person.
According to the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, they received a call about a fire at a residence on 118 Avenue and 96 Street at around 3:30 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the house fully engulfed in flames.
Despite their best efforts, they were unable to save the individual who was inside the house. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials have confirmed that there were no other injuries reported.
Neighbours in the area were awoken by the sound of sirens and the sight of the burning house. Many expressed shock and sadness at the loss of life.
The Edmonton Police Service has also been called in to assist with the investigation. They are asking anyone with information about the fire to come forward.
