Israeli Minister Calls for Regime Change, Dismisses Any Possible Agreement with Iran as “Worthless”
In a recent statement, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Orit Farkash-Hacohen, has called for regime change in Iran and dismissed any potential agreement with the country as “worthless.”
Speaking at the annual conference of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, Farkash-Hacohen emphasized the need for a change in leadership in Iran, stating that the current regime is “a threat to the entire world.”
The minister also criticized the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, stating that any potential agreement would only serve to legitimize the Iranian regime and its nuclear ambitions.
Farkash-Hacohen’s comments come amidst renewed efforts by the Biden administration to revive the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, which was abandoned by former President Donald Trump in 2018.
Israel has long been a vocal opponent of the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and has repeatedly called for tougher measures against Iran’s nuclear program.
The Israeli minister also highlighted Iran’s support for terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas, and its involvement in conflicts across the Middle East, including in Syria and Yemen.
Farkash-Hacohen’s call for regime change in Iran echoes the sentiments of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has repeatedly warned against the dangers of a nuclear-armed Iran.
The Israeli government has also been vocal in its opposition to the Biden administration’s efforts to rejoin the JCPOA, with Netanyahu stating that Israel will not be bound by any agreement that does not address Iran’s ballistic missile program and its support for terrorism.
The minister’s remarks have been met with support from other Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Benny Gantz, who stated that Israel will do everything in its power to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
As the negotiations between the US and Iran continue, it remains to be seen how Israel’s stance on the issue will impact the outcome. However, one thing is clear – the Israeli government remains steadfast in its belief that any agreement with Iran is “worthless” and that regime change is the only viable solution.
