Metrolinx CEO promises fewer legal battles on future Ontario transit projects

Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency in Ontario, has announced a change in their legal strategy in response to ongoing legal battles with Bombardier over the delayed delivery of light rail vehicles.

According to Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins, the agency will now be pursuing a “more aggressive” approach in their legal proceedings against Bombardier. This change comes after years of delays and setbacks in the delivery of light rail vehicles for the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects.

Aikins stated that Metrolinx has been working closely with their legal team to reassess their approach and ensure that they are taking all necessary steps to hold Bombardier accountable for their contractual obligations. She also emphasized that this change in strategy is not a decision that was made lightly, but rather a necessary step in order to protect the interests of taxpayers and ensure the timely completion of these important transit projects.

This change in legal strategy comes after a recent court ruling that ordered Bombardier to pay Metrolinx $550 million in damages for the delayed delivery of light rail vehicles. However, Bombardier has appealed this ruling and the legal battle is ongoing.

In response to this change in strategy, Bombardier has stated that they are disappointed with Metrolinx’s decision and believe that it will only further delay the delivery of the light rail vehicles. They also stated that they remain committed to fulfilling their contractual obligations and delivering the vehicles as soon as possible.

The delayed delivery of light rail vehicles has caused significant frustration and inconvenience for commuters in the Greater Toronto Area. The Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT projects are crucial for improving transit in the region and reducing traffic congestion. The change in Metrolinx’s legal strategy is a clear indication of their determination to hold Bombardier accountable and ensure the timely completion of these important projects.

As the legal battle between Metrolinx and Bombardier continues, commuters can only hope that this change in strategy will lead to a resolution and the delivery of the much-needed light rail vehicles. In the meantime, Metrolinx has assured the public that they are doing everything in their power to minimize the impact of these delays and keep the projects on track.
