A man is wanted by authorities in Ontario after a tent fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the incident occurred at a campground in the town of Kearney, located about 250 kilometres north of Toronto.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2:30 a.m. after reports of a fire at the campground. Upon arrival, they discovered a tent fully engulfed in flames.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, but the tent and its contents were completely destroyed.
The OPP has identified the suspect as 35-year-old John Smith, who is believed to have fled the scene before emergency services arrived. Smith is described as being approximately 6 feet tall, with a medium build and short brown hair.
Police are urging anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts to come forward and contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
The investigation is ongoing and the OPP is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Smith. They are also reminding the public to always exercise caution when using open flames, especially in outdoor settings.
