Vacant William Whyte area house sees fourth fire this year: WFPS

A house in the William Whyte area of Winnipeg has been the site of yet another fire, marking the fourth incident this year, according to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS).

The vacant house, located on the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue, has been the subject of multiple fires in the past few months. The most recent fire occurred on Monday evening, with WFPS responding to the scene at around 9:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the house fully engulfed in flames. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring properties. No injuries were reported.

This is not the first time the WFPS has responded to a fire at this particular house. In fact, this marks the fourth time this year that the WFPS has been called to the same location. The previous incidents occurred in January, March, and May.

According to WFPS officials, the house has been vacant for some time and is known to be a popular spot for squatters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but officials suspect it may have been caused by squatters or arson.

The WFPS is urging the public to stay away from the vacant house and to report any suspicious activity in the area. They also remind residents to always have working smoke alarms in their homes and to never leave candles or other open flames unattended.

The WFPS is also working with the City of Winnipeg’s By-Law Enforcement Division to address the ongoing issue of vacant and derelict properties in the city. They are calling on property owners to properly secure and maintain their properties to prevent incidents like this from occurring.

As of now, the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the WFPS or Crime Stoppers.
