After two weeks of intense competition, the Paris Olympic Games have come to a close. And as the world watched the closing ceremony, two Canadian athletes proudly carried the country’s flag.
Gold medallists, swimmer Kylie Masse and wrestler Tamyra Mensah-Stock, were initially chosen to carry the flag. However, due to their busy schedules, they were unable to attend the ceremony. As a result, the honor was given to two other deserving athletes – rower Caileigh Filmer and cyclist Michael Woods.
But it was ultimately rower Conlin Mcintosh and cyclist Kelsey Katzberg who were chosen to carry the flag. Both athletes had an impressive performance at the Games, with Mcintosh winning gold in the women’s eight rowing event and Katzberg winning bronze in the women’s road race.
Mcintosh, who hails from Vancouver, was ecstatic to be chosen as one of the flag bearers. “It’s such an honor to represent Canada and to be chosen to carry the flag alongside Kelsey,” she said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my Olympic journey.”
Katzberg, who is from Ottawa, shared the same sentiment. “It’s a dream come true to carry the flag for my country,” she said. “I am so grateful for this opportunity and to be able to share it with Conlin makes it even more special.”
The two athletes led the Canadian delegation into the stadium, proudly waving the maple leaf flag. They were joined by their fellow Canadian athletes, who were all dressed in their red and white uniforms.
The closing ceremony was a celebration of the athletes’ hard work and dedication, as well as a tribute to the host city, Paris. The event featured performances from French artists and a spectacular fireworks display.
As the Olympic flame was extinguished, the Games officially came to an end. And while Canada may not have topped the medal standings, the country’s athletes have made their mark and have made their fellow Canadians proud.
Congratulations to all the athletes who represented Canada at the Paris Olympic Games. Your determination, resilience, and sportsmanship have inspired us all.
