A Toronto driver was found sleeping in their vehicle at an Ontario police station and has been charged with impaired driving, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
On Monday, March 15, at around 2:30 a.m., officers at the OPP detachment in Port Credit noticed a vehicle parked in the lot with its engine running and the driver asleep behind the wheel.
Upon further investigation, the officers determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested them for impaired driving.
The driver, who has not been identified, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
The OPP is reminding the public that impaired driving is a serious offence and puts not only the driver but also other road users at risk. They urge anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver to call 911 immediately.
This incident serves as a reminder to always plan ahead and have a designated driver or use alternative modes of transportation if consuming alcohol. The consequences of impaired driving can be severe and can have a lasting impact on the lives of those involved.
The driver is scheduled to appear in court on a later date to answer to the charges. The OPP is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
It is important for all drivers to remember that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not only illegal but also extremely dangerous. Let us all work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.
