Lethbridge organizations are gearing up for their final push to collect back-to-school supplies for students in need. With the new school year just around the corner, these efforts are crucial in ensuring that all students have the necessary tools to succeed.
The Lethbridge Food Bank, along with other local organizations, has been collecting donations of school supplies since the beginning of August. These supplies will be distributed to families in need through the Food Bank’s annual Back-to-School Program.
According to the Food Bank’s Executive Director, Maral Kiani Tari, the demand for school supplies has been steadily increasing over the years. Last year, the program provided supplies to over 1,200 students, and this year, they are expecting an even higher number.
In addition to the Food Bank, other organizations such as the Lethbridge Family Services and the Interfaith Food Bank are also collecting donations for their own back-to-school programs. These programs aim to support families who may be struggling financially and cannot afford to purchase school supplies for their children.
The Lethbridge Family Services’ program, called “Tools for School,” has been running for over 20 years and has helped thousands of students in the community. This year, they are expecting to provide supplies to over 1,500 students.
The Interfaith Food Bank’s program, “Operation Backpack,” is also in its 20th year and has been a vital resource for families in need. Last year, they distributed over 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, and this year, they are hoping to surpass that number.
These organizations are relying on the generosity of the community to make these programs a success. They are accepting donations of new school supplies, such as backpacks, pencils, notebooks, and calculators, as well as monetary donations.
The deadline for donations is fast approaching, and these organizations are urging the community to come together and support their efforts. With the ongoing pandemic, the need for school supplies is even greater, as many families are facing financial hardships.
As the new school year approaches, let us all do our part in ensuring that every student has the necessary tools to succeed. Let us come together as a community and support these organizations in their final push to collect back-to-school supplies for those in need.
