Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious crash in Richmond Hill left seven youths injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at the intersection of Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive. According to York Regional Police, a vehicle carrying seven young individuals collided with a pole, causing significant damage to the car.

Emergency services were immediately called to the scene and all seven occupants were transported to hospital with varying degrees of injuries. One of the youths is said to be in critical condition, while the others are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with any information. They are particularly interested in speaking with the driver of a white SUV that was seen in the area at the time of the crash.

In a statement, York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle emphasized the importance of witnesses coming forward to assist with the investigation. “We are asking anyone who may have seen the collision or has dashcam footage to please contact us,” she said.

The intersection was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation, but has since been reopened.
