The OPP has also urged the driver to come forward and take responsibility for their actions. “We are asking the driver to do the right thing and come forward,” said OPP Constable Ken Johnston. “We are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information to contact us immediately.”

The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Local residents have expressed their condolences and are calling for justice for the cyclist and their family.

This is not the first time a cyclist has been killed in a hit-and-run collision in Brant County. In 2019, a 57-year-old cyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 24. The driver in that incident was later charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident causing death.

The OPP is reminding drivers to always remain vigilant and share the road with cyclists. “Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers on the road,” said Constable Johnston. “We urge drivers to be aware of their surroundings and to always give cyclists enough space.”

The investigation into the hit-and-run collision is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
