Peterborough police officer charged with breach of trust, possession of property obtained by crime

A Peterborough police officer has been charged with breach of trust and possession of property obtained by crime, according to authorities.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with one count of breach of trust and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Peterborough Police Service’s Professional Standards Unit, which was launched in October 2020 after receiving information from a member of the public.

The officer has been suspended from duty with pay, as per the Police Services Act.

In a statement, Peterborough Police Chief Scott Gilbert expressed his disappointment and emphasized that the actions of one officer do not reflect the values and integrity of the entire police service.

The officer is scheduled to appear in court on February 9, 2021.

This is a developing story and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
