Cougar stalks acreage southwest of Calgary twice in a day, kills cat

A cougar has been spotted twice in one day on an acreage located southwest of Calgary, resulting in the death of a cat.

According to reports, the cougar was first seen on the acreage on Monday morning, where it was observed stalking the area. The homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, immediately contacted Alberta Fish and Wildlife.

However, before officials could arrive, the cougar had already killed the homeowner’s cat. The homeowner described the incident as “heartbreaking” and expressed concern for the safety of their family and pets.

Later that same day, the cougar was spotted again on the same acreage. This time, it was seen near a horse pasture. The homeowner quickly contacted Alberta Fish and Wildlife once again, and officials were able to successfully tranquilize and relocate the cougar.

According to officials, the cougar was a young male, approximately two years old and in good health. It is believed that the cougar was likely searching for food and shelter in the area.

Residents in the area are being advised to be cautious and aware of their surroundings, especially if they have small pets or livestock. Alberta Fish and Wildlife is reminding the public to never approach or feed wild animals, and to report any sightings or encounters immediately.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of coexisting with wildlife and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of both humans and animals.
