Liberal candidate in Montreal byelection says campaign is about her — not Trudeau

Montreal, QC – As the Montreal byelection approaches, Liberal candidate Rachel Bendayan is making it clear that her campaign is about her, not about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Bendayan, a lawyer and former advisor to Trudeau, is running in the Outremont riding, which has been a Liberal stronghold for decades. However, with the recent resignation of former MP and cabinet minister, Melanie Joly, the race has become more competitive.

In an interview with CTV News, Bendayan emphasized that her campaign is focused on her own qualifications and experience, rather than relying on Trudeau’s popularity.

“I’m not running because of Justin Trudeau, I’m running because of Rachel Bendayan,” she stated. “I have a strong track record of community involvement and I’m committed to representing the people of Outremont.”

Bendayan also addressed criticism from her opponents, who have accused her of being a “star candidate” handpicked by Trudeau. She defended her qualifications, stating that she has been involved in the community for years and has a deep understanding of the issues facing Outremont residents.

“I have been working in this community for a long time, long before I even knew Justin Trudeau,” she said. “I have a deep connection to this community and I am committed to making it a better place for everyone.”

Bendayan’s campaign has also focused on issues such as affordable housing, climate change, and healthcare. She has pledged to work with the federal government to address these issues and bring positive change to the riding.

The byelection will take place on February 25, and Bendayan is facing off against candidates from the NDP, Conservative, and Green parties. While she acknowledges that the Liberal party has faced challenges in recent months, she remains confident in her ability to win the seat.

“I am running to be the voice of Outremont in Ottawa, and I am committed to working hard for the people of this riding,” she concluded.

As the race heats up, it remains to be seen if Bendayan’s focus on her own qualifications will be enough to secure a victory in this highly contested byelection.
