Quebec Premier François Legault’s popularity has been on the rise this summer, according to recent polls. The latest survey conducted by Léger Marketing shows that Legault’s approval rating has continued to climb, reaching an impressive 66% in August.
This marks a significant increase from the 61% approval rating Legault received in June, and the 63% in July. The survey also revealed that 29% of respondents disapprove of the premier’s performance, while 5% remain undecided.
The rise in Legault’s popularity can be attributed to his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The premier’s swift and decisive actions, including implementing strict lockdown measures and ramping up testing and contact tracing, have been widely praised by Quebecers.
In addition, Legault’s government has also been successful in securing a steady supply of vaccines, with over 80% of the eligible population now fully vaccinated. This has led to a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the province.
Despite facing criticism for his handling of the recent heatwave and the ongoing housing crisis, Legault’s overall approval rating has remained strong. His government’s handling of the pandemic and the successful vaccination rollout have overshadowed these issues for many Quebecers.
The Léger Marketing survey also revealed that Legault’s popularity is strongest among francophone voters, with 71% of them approving of his performance. However, he also has a solid approval rating among non-francophone voters, with 54% expressing their support.
As the province continues to navigate the pandemic and its aftermath, Legault’s approval rating will be closely monitored. With a majority government and a strong mandate, the premier has the opportunity to continue leading Quebec through these challenging times and maintain his popularity among the people.
