Sask NDP tear into AIMS system rollout, say costs have risen to $203 million

The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) has strongly criticized the rollout of the province’s new automated case management system, known as AIMS. According to the NDP, the costs for the system have skyrocketed to $203 million, far exceeding the initial estimate of $56.5 million.

In a statement released on Monday, NDP Leader Ryan Meili called the AIMS rollout a “complete disaster” and accused the government of mismanaging the project. He also pointed out that the system has been plagued with issues since its launch in 2018, causing delays and disruptions in the justice system.

The AIMS system was intended to streamline and modernize the management of court cases, but it has faced numerous setbacks and technical difficulties. In addition to the increased costs, the system has also been criticized for its lack of user-friendliness and its impact on court proceedings.

The NDP has called for a full investigation into the AIMS rollout and for the government to be held accountable for the mismanagement of taxpayer funds. Meili also urged the government to take immediate action to fix the issues with the system and ensure that it is functioning properly.

In response to the criticism, Justice Minister Don Morgan defended the AIMS system, stating that it has improved the efficiency of the justice system and reduced the backlog of cases. He also acknowledged that there have been challenges with the rollout, but assured that the government is working to address them.

The AIMS system has been a contentious issue in Saskatchewan, with the NDP and other opposition parties calling for its suspension or cancellation. The government, however, remains committed to the system and its potential to modernize the justice system in the province.

As the debate over the AIMS system continues, it is clear that there are still many concerns and challenges that need to be addressed. The NDP’s criticism and call for accountability highlight the need for transparency and effective management in government projects.
