A man has been charged after a dead body was discovered inside an apartment in East Toronto.
According to Toronto police, officers were called to the apartment building on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report of a deceased person inside one of the units.
Upon arrival, officers located the body of a man inside the apartment. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old John Smith.
After further investigation, police arrested 32-year-old Mark Johnson and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Smith’s death.
The cause of death has not been released, and police have not disclosed any potential motive for the murder.
Residents of the apartment building were shocked and saddened by the news of Smith’s death. Many described him as a friendly and quiet man who kept to himself.
Police have not released any further information at this time, but are urging anyone with information to come forward.
