Woman charged with first-degree murder in west Toronto shooting

A woman has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred in the west end of Toronto.

According to police, the incident took place on Monday evening at around 7:30 p.m. in the area of Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue West. Officers responded to reports of gunshots and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Michael Lewis. He was known to police and had a history of criminal activity.

After an investigation, 29-year-old Samantha Jones was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. She appeared in court on Tuesday morning.

Police have not released any information on the relationship between Jones and Lewis, or a possible motive for the shooting.

This is not the first time Jones has been in trouble with the law. In 2018, she was charged with assault and possession of a weapon. She was also charged with drug-related offenses in 2019.
