Richmond RCMP appeal for information in woman's drowning death on Oct. 3

Richmond RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in their investigation into the tragic drowning death of a woman on October 3rd.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the Steveston Fisherman’s Wharf. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was found unresponsive in the water and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information to come forward.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact us,” said Cpl. Ian Henderson in a statement. “Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial in helping us piece together what happened.”

The RCMP is also asking for any dashcam or surveillance footage from the area to be submitted to investigators.

The cause of the woman’s death has not been determined and the investigation is ongoing. The BC Coroners Service is also involved in the case.

The RCMP is reminding the public to always be cautious around bodies of water, especially during the fall and winter months when water temperatures are colder and currents can be stronger. They also urge individuals to wear a life jacket when participating in water activities.

The community is mourning the loss of the woman and the RCMP is committed to finding answers for her loved ones. The public’s cooperation and assistance in this investigation is greatly appreciated.
