A group of teenage girls were attacked with bear spray while out trick-or-treating in Kelowna on Halloween night.
According to the Kelowna RCMP, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm in the area of Springfield Road and Hollywood Road North. The group of girls, all aged between 14 and 16, were walking along the street when they were approached by a group of unknown individuals.
Without warning, one of the individuals pulled out a can of bear spray and sprayed it at the girls. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving the girls in a state of shock and distress.
The girls immediately sought help from nearby residents, who called the police and provided assistance until they arrived. The girls were then taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries caused by the bear spray.
The Kelowna RCMP is currently investigating the incident and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects. They are described as a group of males, all wearing dark clothing and hoodies.
This is not the first time bear spray has been used as a weapon in Kelowna. In September, a man was arrested for using bear spray during a fight at a local park. The RCMP is reminding the public that bear spray is a prohibited weapon and should only be used in self-defense against a bear.
The incident has left the community shocked and concerned, especially on a night meant for fun and celebration. The RCMP is urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
In the meantime, the Kelowna RCMP is reminding everyone to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, especially during Halloween when there is an increase in foot traffic and activity in the community.
The safety and well-being of our community, especially our youth, is of utmost importance. The Kelowna RCMP is committed to ensuring that those responsible for this senseless act are brought to justice.
